Many children with dyslexia are misunderstood. Instead of receiving the extra help they need, they’re often left feeling confused and isolated. In the current education systems, children who learn differently can be labelled as “lazy” or “slow,” when in fact they simply process information in unique ways.
At Sexceed, we are on a mission to explore how music can be a powerful tool to support dyslexic learners and change the narrative.
The Challenge of Dyslexia in Traditional Classrooms
When a child struggles with reading or writing, it isn’t due to a lack of intelligence. Dyslexic students often absorb lessons well but face significant challenges when it comes to putting their thoughts on paper.
- Unresolved Confusion: When a dyslexic child is confronted with a problem they can’t solve, it creates anxiety and blocks further learning.
- Misunderstood Potential: Many brilliant children are unfairly labelled as lazy or stupid because traditional teaching methods do not cater to their learning needs.
A system that starts at the basics—ensuring every step is clearly understood—can make all the difference. Teachers and parents need to be patient and ready to work through each concept until it’s fully grasped.

The Power of Music in Learning
Before I knew about my own dyslexia, I found that music was a tremendous help in stimulating my brain and calming my mind. Music not only brought peace but also made learning more engaging:
- Enhanced Focus: Music helped me overcome the mental block caused by unsolved problems, allowing me to regain my focus and confidence.
- Positive Reinforcement: Getting the correct answer created a flow that boosted my motivation and enjoyment in learning.
Inspired by this personal discovery, I began to see music as an innovative educational tool—one that can be especially effective for dyslexic children who need a different way to process and retain information.

A Personal Journey of Inspiration
My journey with dyslexia taught me that even when challenges seem overwhelming, there is a path forward. I remember the moment when, at 42, I read my first copy of Think and Grow Rich. The book’s powerful message not only inspired me but also sparked an idea.
When my brother-in-law, Martin Way, began writing inspirational songs based on the book’s message, I was immediately drawn to the project. His dedication—hours spent reading, writing, recording, and collaborating with other musicians—resulted in music that is divided into clear “chapters” or steps to riches. This structured approach not only makes the music easy to listen to, but it also guides the listener on a journey of discovery, purpose, and empowerment.
